SIM Swapping

SIM swapping happens when a scammer steals your cell phone number and puts it on a new SIM card in a phone that they control. It uses the same process you use to buy a new phone with a new SIM card. The thief can then use your SIM card to steal your information. Usually, you can contact your mobile phone provider to add extra security or temporarily stop number porting to help protect yourself from SIM swappers. If you suspect that your phone has been victimized, contact your mobile phone operator or contact your computer provider.
